This week's essay: a brief survey of some recent films exploring the notion that August is the home of the most personal and idiosyncratic movies of the modern blockbuster scene. Not always for the best, though I didn't bother bringing up those movies in what was, after all, an upbeat and affirmative piece. Hell, Freddy vs. Jason was an August movie.
